Communication between the Neue Automat hardware and the Playground mobile app is using Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE). BLE is made for sending and receiving data with a moderate speed to reduce power consumption.
For the Neue iENBL you can use LTE or WiFi together with Playground Web to update and program the device.
