Neue and Hallins Deliver Smart Food Transport Carts to Aalborg University Hospital
IoT and Digitalization Drive Efficiency and Sustainability in Hospital Logistics
Aalborg University Hospital is one of Denmark’s most modern hospital projects and the largest construction project in Northern Jutland to date. Designed to optimize logistics and patient safety throughout the region, the hospital will cover 170,000 m² when it opens in 2026. It will feature a high degree of digitalization and automated processes, including a new central warehouse where autonomous AGVs (Automated Guided Vehicles) deliver supplies to hospital departments. As part of this digital infrastructure, the hospital has now invested in an IoT-based food transport solution from Neue and Hallins to optimize operations, energy consumption, and maintenance of food transport carts.

Hallins is a leading manufacturer of food transport carts. In collaboration with Neue, they have developed a digitalized version of Hallins’ proprietary food transport system, Temptainer®. By integrating Neue’s hardware and the low-code platform Neue Playground into over 300 food transport carts, the hospital gains a connected, remotely controlled, and automated solution that optimizes operations, reduces energy consumption, and enables predictive maintenance.

With the first 40 carts already delivered and more on the way, this is just the beginning. Discussions are ongoing about making the solution a standard feature in all Hallins carts and expanding to hospitals in Sweden and other markets.
This project demonstrates how quickly we can integrate IoT technology into existing products to create immediate value. Through our Playground platform, we can easily tailor features to customer needs, enabling smarter and more sustainable hospital logistics.
We see enormous potential in digitalizing hospital food transport. By collaborating with Neue, we have created a solution that is installed directly in our carts and ready for use from day one.
With this successful delivery to Aalborg’s new hospital, the partnership between Neue and Hallins takes a significant step towards digitalization and automation in healthcare.
